Geometric Twofers!!!

Hi, everyone! Hope all is well.

Seems like forever that I've posted.... because the SAS4Kids card that I posted was scheduled a while ago. Anyhoo, my passion bucket for card making has been bone dry for quite a while. Leave it to Darnell and her Twofer team to break the mojo drought with Twofer Challenge #8.  :)

That said, I thought I was being so creative going with hexagons, bees, and a soccer ball... until I came to the Twofer Linky. Great minds.... right?! LOL

Even though these cards aren't quite as original as I thought they'd be, I'm still pretty pleased with them. And, I'm pretty sure they'll bring smiles to a couple of little patients at Nationwide Children's.

Both cards were made using a Tim Holtz hexagon strip die.

Soccer Card Details:
  • I used a Tim Holtz hexagon die, a Stampin'Up!/Sizzix embossing folder, and a Spellbinders circle die to create the soccer ball.
  • MFT dies were used for the grassy field, and an MFT cloud stencil was used for the sky.
  • The sentiment letters are Kelly Purkey alphabet stickers colored with a black Sharpie.
  • Broken china and peeled paint Distress Inks, applied with a mini blending tool, were used for the sky and grass.

Bee Card Details:

  • I created a stencil with the same Tim Holtz hexagon die mentioned above, and then inked the design with fossilized amber and fired brick.
  • The sentiment is a combination of a Simon Says you matter die and a Paper Smooches courteous cuties 2 saying embossed with Versamark ink and white Simon Says embossing powder.
  • That sweet little bee is from Paper Smooches courteous cuties, stamped in MFT hybrid black licorice and Versamark embossing ink before embossing with clear Ranger embossing powder. Next, he bee was colored with SU watercolor pencils. I also stamped the bee on SU vellum with black StazOn ink and then paper pieced the two stamped images together.
  • Final details included adding a couple of Paper Smooches die-cut tiny hearts to the card front and a little Wink of Stella shine to the bee. The entire front panel was mounted to a black SU card base.

The photo on the right shows the Tim Holtz die used on both cards, as well as the die-cut stencils used on the bee card. Here's hoping that falls within the Twofer rules.

There's a Yellow and Black Challenge going on over at Cards In Envy and an Anything Goes Challenge at Paper Smooches. So, I think I'll share this little bee card at CIE and PS.

Parting Thoughts

Hoping the mojo's back for good. I'm soooooo far behind in my SAS4Kids cards. (Sorry, Anne.)

Until next time, thanks for stopping and happy scrappin'!

  3. Oh, Sybrina, you WERE being clever and creative with these two fabulous cards! I've had that happen when I've entered challenges before and I just couldn't believe my eyes. So we all know that it happens and it doesn't diminish anyone's cards ... it's just true that great minds think alike!

I love how you used your die in two different ways for your two designs! As a background, it is bee-utiful in perfect honey colors for your bold sentiment and sweet bee! And turning it into a soccer ball is genius! Your sky and grass are perfection!! Thank you so much for playing in Twofer Card Challenge #8! Hugs, Darnell

Same for your bee card ... so creative and fun to create a stencil and monoprint the hexagon background. It's to bright and fun ... and perfect for the sweet sentiment and cute little bee. Thanks for playing along with us at Twofer Card Challenge!

  5. I think it's very creative to turn a hexagon die into a soccer ball and make a stencil out of it for a bee hive! That soccer ball looks ready to be kicked and the fabulous card will make someone very happy! And the bee hive background, sentiment, and cute bee is gorgeous! Wonderful designs!
Thank you so much for joining us at the Twofer!

  6. Your cards are adorable, Sybrina!! I love both. especially the bee card, but that soccer ball is pretty darn cool! I haven't made anything new in about 3 weeks - having a drought here as well! It was so nice of you to visit my blog, thank you. Hope all is well with you and your family, including Brody. All's well here (except it's too darn hot and humid!). Hugs!!
