Playing with MISTI -- Days 1 and 2

Hi, everyone!

Well, I tried to resist. But, I eventually had to give in... and bought a MISTI! And, I've spent a good portion of the last couple of afternoons playing MISTI.   :)

For my very first MISTI-enabled creation, I tried my hand at making a card using StazOn jet black ink and various Distress Inks.

Gear Up for Christmas

For this first card, I wanted to make a fun Christmas card for the current SAS4Kids Challenge. What could be more fun than an army of green and red bots?!

Canson watercolor; Distress Ink black soot core; Stampin' Up! cherry cobbler
MFT bionic bots; PS holly jolly
mowed lawn and fired brick Distress Inks
sentiment heat embossed in SU white powder
I adore these little bots and am thrilled with the way this card turned out! The images and sentiment were created pairing up Paper Smooches holly jolly stamps (garland, "Christmas") and My Favorite Thing bionic bots stamps (bots, "Gear up for").

Unfortunately, the embossed sentiment is not as crisp as I would like -- but I find that to be true as a rule when embossing on DI core paper. Nonetheless, I wanted to go with a rich black paper, and my only other choice was a pack of Recollections black. So, I sacrificed crisp embossing for rich paper.

The following pics show a couple of steps in the design process.  :)

I masked bots to place bots behind other bots.
However, I did not use the MISTI when stamping in StazOn because I don't have the recommended cleaner.

The five bots are lined up and ready for their dye jobs!

Bots were placed inside MISTI and re-stamped with green or red Distress Inks, masking as needed.

 A One-of-a-Kind Birthday Card

For my second MISTI card, I pulled out a Winnie & Walter stamp that I love... but can never, ever stamp a clean, crisp image.

This is also my most successful smooshed watercoloring EVER! Thanks go to a Unity Stamp video suggested inking up the back side of the acetate and applying it to moistened watercolor paper. Hooray!

Canson watercolor paper; Recollections black
Winnie & Walter stamps in StazOn jet black and Distress Ink black soot
DI pickled raapberry, mustard seed, and tumbled glass
Stampin' Up! owl builder and EK hole punches (for circles)

Love, love, love this colorful card that will be going to my father-in-law! In addition to inking up acetate, I also used a wet paper towel to intensify ink colors.  :)

Parting Thoughts

There are a couple of great challenges going on right now. There is a breast-cancer-awareness, fight-like-a-girl challenge going on at Words 2 Scrap By. And, there is Creepy Crawlie challenge going on at Cards in Envy. Stop by to check DT creations and link up a creation of your own. (W2SB is open to all types of projects, while CIE is an A2 card challenge.)

Back soon with more MISTI creations. Until then, have a great weekend!

Thanks for stopping and happy scrappin'!   :)

  1. I love both cards! I'm a bit confused with how you used the MISTI on the first one, since you didn't use it to stamp the bots.

  2. Thanks, Leslie. Sorry I wasn't clear in my post. I stamped bots in StazOn without my MISTI because I didn't have "the" cleaner. Then, I used my MISTI to re-stamp bots in mowed green and fired brick Distress Inks.
