Sending Monochromatic Hugs

Hi, everyone! Hope 2016 is treating you well.  :)

I'm here to share an extra special card. It's special for two reasons. It's going to a friend who had surgery last week. It's also special because it is a pink tribute to Leslie of Shopping Our Stash and The Crooked Stamper who passed after a valiant battle against cancer. The crafting blog community won't be quite the same without Leslie's warmth, humor, and talent.

Canson watercolor paper, inked in Distress Ink Victorian Velvet, applied with Ranger blending tool
Recollections black cardstock; Debbie Munn baby girl dp; Stampin' Up! vellum
Winnie & Walter big bold stamp set
Martha Stewart butterfly punches; stash sequins
adhesives: Scotch ATG; Zig glue dots' Ranger multi medium matte

The background was created by inking watercolor paper with Distress Ink Victorian Velvet and then heat embossing with Versamark and clear powder. In Leslie's spirit, I'll spill the beans about this background. This was background attempt #2. On the reverse side, I tried heat embossed first and inked second. I liked the results achieved by inking first and embossing second so much better.  :)

Other points of note:
  • The sentiment on the vellum is also heat embossed, using DI black soot.
  • The butterfly was sprayed with shimmer mist.
  • I played with several different embellishments -- including a white twine ribbon -- before settling on a single sequin in the top left corner.
  • I used my MISTI to line the sentiment words and re-stamp to get a good coating of ink.
  • I so wanted to add antennae to this little butterfly. However, I had visions of all the ways this idea could go wrong and choose to let well enough be.
Linking this up to the current Shopping Our Stash Color Me Monochromatic Challenge... and hoping for some pink extra credit points. Also linking this up to the Simon Says Blog Something New Challenge because, for this card, I used a brand spankin' new stamp set from Paper Smooches. Finally, Karen at Word Art Wednesday invited me to link up the card at the blog's current Anything Goes Challenge.

Parting Thoughts

It had been a couple of days since I'd hung out in the menopause room. It felt good to craft away an afternoon.   :)

Some challenge blog notes:
  • There's a Shiny New Year Challenge going on at Cards in Envy,
  • There's a Valentine Cards 4 Kids Challenge going on at SAS4Kids, and
  • Fans of Words 2 Scrap By will want to stop by Words 2 Craft By a week from today for our first challenge of the new year.
Think that's it for tonight. Thanks for stopping and happy scrappin'!
