my hero

Hi, everyone!

Hope the weekend is going well. It was a cold, rainy day here in Central Ohio. Sounds like a perfect day to clean house make a card.  :)

t
Strathmore watercolor paper; Distress Ink core paper; Creative Memories stash silver paper
Paper Smooches Super image and sentiment, stamped in StazOn jet black
image colored with Prismacolor pencils and traced with generic black pen
My Favorite Things stencil, inked with various Distress Inks applied with Ranger blending tool
Distress Ink Super die; Stampin' Up! star dies and punches; stash ??? corner die for tiniest stars
Creative Memories oval cutting system
adhesives: Scotch ATG; Recollections foam squares; Zig 2-way glue pen; Zots glue dots

Today's card is for Send a Smile 4 Kids and will be going to Nationwide Children's. There is a dad/masculine card challenge going on at SAS4Kids. Rather than a dad or Father's Day-specific card, I decided to go with a male super hero card that could be used for a dad, uncle, grandpa, big brother.... and could be used for a birthday or other special occasion.

Sketch Saturday #412 was an inspiration for this card. Other than the horizontal strip at the bottom of the card, I stayed pretty close to this sketch. Amazing, I know! I tried to make the strip work. But, because of the stenciled wall pattern, I felt the card was stronger without it.

When I first saw the oval, my mind initially went to feminine cards. Then the idea came to have our little super hero crash through a wall, which took care of the feminine issue. You might notice that I stenciled the pattern on both sides of the paper, so there would be bricks on the other side when the paper was folded.

I'm also going to link this up for the current Paper Smooches Guest Designer Search. (Hope springs eternal, right?!)

Parting Thoughts

A new challenge went live on Wednesday over at Words 2 Craft By. In addition to a guest designer spot, there's a $10 gift certificate up for grabs this month. We'd love for you to join us.

Big thanks to Lauren and Stephanie for inviting me to join them as a Guest Designer over at Jingle Belles this fortnight. There's still a week to join in the Shake, Rattle, and Roll interactive card fun.  :)

And, thanks to the uber-talented, colorista Sandy for her coloring tips. I know I still have a long ways to go. But, Sandy's definitely started me off in the right direction.

Have a wonderful Sunday. The dads are coming for dinner. So, we're looking forward to a nice Sunday afternoon.

Thanks for stopping and happy scrappin'!
