Best SON Ever

Hi, everyone! Hope the week is off to a great start.

It's hard to imagine that our neighborhood kids go back to school tomorrow. Even worse, a good friend reported back last Monday and met kids on Wednesday/ It still seems so strange for classes to start up before Labor Day.  :(

The current Monday Blog Challenge over at Simon Says Stamp is to make a card celebrating Summer Fun. (More info on that below.) I paired that challenge with this week's Mojo Sketch to create the card shown below.

Bo Bunny liberty; Recollections blue; stash (Bazzill?) red; Distress Ink antique linen
Hero Arts sentiment, heat embossed with Versamark and Recollections copper on Stampin' Up! vellum
Darice and Cuttlebug embossing folders; Paper Studio (teensy) brads
Creative Memories
Paper Studio circle and SU star punches

What does this have to do with summer fun you ask? Fair question.

  • When we were working, a major highlight of summer was our annual Hilton Head vacation. Now, we are able to go down in October and February. So, our summer fun means going out for a gourmet ice cream scoop after dinner, meeting up for lunch with out-of-school teacher friends, and catching a movie at the local theater on $5 Tuesdays.
  • This summer, it's also included cheering on our fellow Americans competing at the Olympics. I used this patriotic feeling to create a (copper) medal-like card for an SAS4Kids boy. My current SAS4Kids box is low on boy/gender-neutral card, and I thought this patriotic card might card might bring a smile to an older boy's face.

My Mojo Sketch interpretation is a little more obvious. I started by rotating the sketch to accommodate a vertical sentiment. Then, I adjusted the size of the rectangular middle element to better fit the sentiment. Because the background paper is a little busy, I used multiple bases for this center element to make sure it was a focal point.

Parting Thoughts

A new Hip to Be Square Challenge started today at Cards in Envy. There's one more week to play along with For the Girls over at Send a Smile 4 Kids. And, both participants and followers can win over at the Words 2 Craft By A Single Step Challenge.

Have a great week! Thanks for stopping and happy scrappin'!
