Today's card is one in a set of three birthday cards for three friends celebrating July birthdays. I was inspired by a recent Kristina video to try an emboss resist layering technique with those yummy Oxides. Boy, oh boy, do I love Tim's new inks!!!
In Kristina's video, she used a stamp with nice, wide stripe. Since I didn't have one of these in my stash, I used a stencil with a narrower set of stripes. I decided to go with a diagonal angle that seemed perfect for a happy card.
The second difference in our cards is that Kristina's colors were more pastel in nature, while my colors ended up being brighter. While I was initially disappointed in this difference, my brighter/bolder colors work well for a birthday card.
Since these colorful backgrounds turned out so well, I decided to go with just a bold two-part sentiment in black... and a few small embellishments. At least two of the cards are going snail mail -- and the panels were popped using foam backing, so I stuck with cardstock elements... skipping sequins this time around. Finally, "happy" is three-ply, with the bottom two layers cut from Recollection value paper... but a Stampin' Up top layer.
Since my card has heat-embossed stripes, I'm going to link it up at the Simon Says Touchy Feely and Emboss It Challenges.
Thanks so much for the inspiration, Kristina! Love, love, love this technique. :)
Think that's it for this weekend. Until next time, thanks for stopping and happy scrappin'!
Love the rainbow background you created for your card. Fabulous!! Thanks for joining us on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge.
