CAS 4 My Bro!!!

Hi, everyone! Hope it's been a great weekend.

I'm here today to share a birthday card for my brother that was inspired by the current My Favorite Things Sketch Challenge. I just love MFT sketches. Of all the sketch challenges out there, I think this one's my favorite... because the sketches often have a CAS feel to them.

My first big challenge was to find something in my ever-growing kiddie stamps that could work for a grown-up boy. [Challenge 1: Check]

Stampin' Up! black and crumb cake cardstock; Strathmore watercolor paper
My Favorite Things party like a pirate and Paper Smooches ahoy, matey images
images stamped in MFT black licorice and colored with SU watercolor pencils
sentiment from Lawn Fawn's out of this world and MFT's party like a pirate
sentiment stamped in Versamark, heat embossed in SU white powder
inking in Distress vintage photo
adhesives: Scotch ATG; foam backing

My second challenge was playing with my first-ever watercolor pencils. I'd played with these at a couple of stamping events but had hesitated to get a set of my own. So, I finally decided to take the plunge. The card above shows three of my first five images colored with these new pencils. (Yep. The parrot and trunk each had two takes.) And, I have to say that I am pretty pleased with the results. [Challenge 2: Check]

The colored images are MFT's Party Like a Pirate. However, the background is a hodgepodge of Paper Smooches images stamped in Versamark embossing ink. So, I'm linking this up to the current Cards in Envy No Patterned Paper Challenge.

The front sentiment is a combination of Lawn Fawn's out of this world and MFT's party like a pirate. The inside sentiment is all MFT.)

Finally, the edges are inked to add a bit of an aged look.

Parting Thoughts

As a former teacher, I have to say how impressed I was by all the kids who marched this weekend. Regardless of political views, it's hard to not be in awe of those Parkland kids. Wow... What an amazingly strong group of young people.

If you have a chance to get crafty in the next ten days, we'd love for you to play along with us at Words 2 Craft By. We're an equal-opportunity craft challenge. Cards are always welcome, but so are other crafts. You can link up a phenomenal-woman-inspired project for a chance to win $10 to the e-tailer of your choice.

Have a great week!  Until next time, thanks for stopping and happy scrappin'!
