CIE Shiny New Year!

Hi, everyone! Welcome to the first Cards in Envy Challenge of 2016!

And, here are a few details about my card.

Canson watercolor; Recollections black
Winnie & Walter cutaway, coated with Glossy Accents
Lawn Fawn mini snowflakes dies
Stampin' Up! stencil; Inkadinkado gold embossing powder

This was actually my third attempt at creating just the right background for this challenge.
  • For my first attempt, I heat embossed a golden background using a woodsy stencil. However, I ended up making a sympathy card that didn't feel quite right for a happy, shiny challenge.
  • Next, I angled the SU stencil -- as shown above -- to create a green and blue pattern on a black base. It's a beautiful background... and I'm pretty sure I'll use it down the road. However, I wanted to use the "happy" die cut and felt it would get lost on this second background.
  • Then inspiration hit to try the angled striped pattern to create this white/cream and gold. And, I love the results!
The sentiment was created by layering several die cut sentiments and coating the top layer with Glossy Accents. Finally, a few Lawn Fawn snowflakes were added in lieu of sequins/gems/enamel dots.

Think I'll link this up to the Party Challenge over at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Blog.

Hope you will join us for this Cards in Envy Challenge. Remember CIE entries should be A2 cards flat and light enough to mail with one USPS postage stamp.

Thanks for stopping and happy crafting in this new year! Hope to see you for our first challenge of the new year at Words 2 Scrap Craft By next Wednesday.   :)

  2. Hi Sybrina, I LOVE your design! It actually has a retro feeling that you know I love. How did you get the enamel look on your "happy"? So great. I'm glad we'll both be staying on the Cards In Envy DT; you are so encouraging and talented!
