This is my smile!

Hi, everyone! Just popping in to share a card. But first...

Thanks, Nancy!

... I want to thank Nancy Criddle of SD for sending in the following cards for SAS4Kids.

Today's Card: This is my smile!

When I was checking out some of my favorite weekly challenges, I decided I'd like to make something with an adorable Ranger stamp set I recently found on clearance at Hobby Lobby. However, whenever I looked at the expressions on these little fish, I was struggling with coming up with a good two-part sentiment -- which would have to be stamped because of the thickness of the watercolor paper.  That's when I had a Eureka moment -- what if the fish really are trying to smile? After all, not every creature can have a movie-star perfect smile. LOL   :)

To make the card, I started by stamping my image, masking as I went. Then, I played with Distress Inks and water until I came up with my watery background. Next, the images were colored, and the speech bubble and banner texts were successfully stamped -- with thanks to my MISTI. Finally, these elements were placed on the card and final embellishments were added.

Strathmore watercolor paper; Distress Ink core paper
watercolor paper inked with Distress Ink peacock feathers and salty ocean
Ranger Dylusions stamps, inked in StazOn jet black and colored with Prismacolor pencils
Winnie & Walter big, bold sentiments
Paper Smooches waves and quotables dies; stash sequins
Glossy Accents (fish eyes) and Wink of Stella (colored images)
adhesives: Scotch ATG; Recollections foam squares; Ranger multi medium matte

The card below was inspired by Mojo Monday Sketch #455, and the Say What? (aka use a speech bubble) Challenge over at Shopping Our Stash.

In addition, I'm linking this card up to the CAS 4 Kids Challenge over at Send a Smile 4 Kids. I'm hoping this is CAS enough because I'm still trying to figure out exactly what CAS 4 Kids looks like.

In addition, I'm sharing this at the July Inspiration Board Challenge over at Simon Says Stamp. My inspirations were the wave photo in the bottom left and three of the four colors.  :)

Parting Thoughts

Think that's enough for now. Gonna call it a night.

Thanks for stopping and happy scrappin'!

  7. Hahaha! I can just imagine your "aha" moment! These guys are super cute. I love the texture the watercolor paper gives to this project-- there's something, ahem, watery about it! Thank you for playing with your stash and sharing with us at SOS...

  8. Also, also: I just heard about SAS 4 Kids and bookmarked the challenge, plus have plans to send cards to the closest accepting hospital. The stash of cards that Nancy sent look like they'd qualify as CAS for kids... but I know what you mean... Kids are not CAS by nature...
