W2CB #37: Change

Current Challenge:
Jan 11 - Feb 1
Hi, everyone! Is is it still okay to wish you a Happy New Year?

It's time for a new Words 2 Craft By Challenge. This month's words come to us from songwriters  Glen Ballard and Siedah Garrett.

If you wanna make the world a better place

Take a look at yourself, and then make a change.

For my card, I went with a slightly different take, making a card that could be sent to a friend who needs a little extra support keeping a tough New Year's resolution.

Neenah Soler white; Stampin' Up! black and gray; Recollections black and silver glitter papers
Distress Ink scattered straw, inked with Distress Ink mustard seed applied with Ranger blending tool
acetate window: cut from clearance 12" by 12" page protectors
Paper Smooches Bee Mine, Group Hugs stamp sets, in StazOn jet black and Hero Arts pigment unicorn inks
Bee image colored with Prismacolor pencils, eyes coated with Glossy Accents
SU/Sizzix embossing folder; SU twine; for shaker fill, see below
adhesives: Scotch ATG; foam backing; Ranger multi medium matte

A Close-Up Pic Showing  the Embossed Acetate and Masked Sentiment

Here are a few pics showing construction/design considerations.

I added mustard seed ink on a piece of scattered straw core paper, inking outward from the bottom left.

This was my first time to use foam backing -- two plys -- for a shaker card, and I love the way it worked.

The shaker fill was a combination of silvery circles and Pretty Pink Posh onyx and sparkling clear sequins.
The silvery pieces were punched from two-ply silver glitter paper that was glued together back-to-back.
And, "Bee lieve" was created by masking bits from two separate stamp sets.

There are two $10 Simon Says Stamp gift certificates up for grabs: one to our W2CB challenge winner and one to a lucky randomly-selected follower. Remember we are an equal-opportunity crafting challenge blog: any and all word-inspired projects are welcome!

And, this little guy's going over to the Paper Smooches Guest Designer Search... because I'm pretty proud of this little bee.  :)

Hope to see you over at W2CB! As always, thanks for stopping and happy scrappin'!

  1. Sybrina, I love this little bee, it's too darn cute! You are so sweet to make this to help someone with their resolution and I'm sure they'll love and appreciate it. Thank you for sharing how you made it - I've used the foam backing, too, and like it. One thing I have never thought to do is to emboss the acetate! I love that idea and I'm going to borrow it from you - LOL! Seriously, if I have an embossing folder that goes with my theme, I'd going to try it because that is just too cool. Love this so much, Sybrina :-) Hugs!!

  3. You SHOULD be proud of this little bee ~ he's adorable and I think I must have him! Your shaker turned out great and I can't believe you glued little silver punches together but it was definitely worth it! Have a great day...hugs, Annie
