A Color-ing I Did Go

Hi, everyone! I'm here with a colorful card inspired by the current Jingle Belles challenge.

Strathmore watercolor; Stampin' Up! black cardstock
unidentified thrift store stamp
image stamped with Versamark inks and heat embossed with Simon Says clear powder
background and image colored with Oxide inks
adhesives: Scotch ATG, foam backing

I actually came across this stamp in a thrift show for the bargain price of $3. When I saw it, I immediately thought of inking up some Oxides. But, I have to confess, that I never thought I would achieve such a pretty result. Tim's Oxides are truly remarkable for watercolored-me to create this background. And, then the fact that it's possible to layer pink/red/purple atop... WOW! That's what I call better living through chemistry.  :)

  • The top layer was created by smooshing (and spritzing) broken china and fossilized amber onto my craft mat and then moving the watercolor paper through the ink.
  • After heat drying the paper, I applied (and then spritzed) these colors onto acrylic blacks and dabbed ink onto the background.
  • I repeated the acrylic block process several times to achieve the look shown, heat drying between applications.
  • I then let the paper set overnight.
  • The next day, I masked off the poinsettia. I then used a sponge dauber to apply a lot of worn lipstick, followed by some fired brick, and a little wilted violet. Next, I dabbed a little fossilized amber in the center of the flowers. A little Wink of Stella was added to the flower petals.
  • Lastly, I repeated the smooshing, spritzing techniques from the first three bullet points to create the back panel.
If you haven't played with Oxides, I can't recommend them enough. The results are just gorgeous!
